Return to the main What's New page Happy reading! THE BENOIT BARBEAU TROPHY UNVEILED Awarded to the Bantam "B" winners of the Montreal Sud-Ouest Bantam/Midget Tournament... As a long-term resident of Sud-Ouest and involved for several years in hockey, it only seemed natural to the people in charge of the Tournament to create a trophy in honour of Benoit Barbeau for the Bantam B division. Making a significant contribution to the development of numerous players through his involvement in the community, this token of recognition from the world of hockey and the citizens of Sud-Ouest allows Benoit Barbeau to join the likes of Jean-Jacques Daigneault (Midget A), Gilles Meloche (Midget B) and Marc Bergevin (Bantam A) with a symbolic trophy! Visit the TSO tournament (French only) web site for details. THE FRIENDS OF VILLE-ÉMARD MAKING A DIFFERENCE Free spots at the Pre-Season Camp awarded to eight young players! The Friends of Ville-Émard gave some promising young hockey players the opportunity to participate free of charge in the Pre-Season Camp August 9-13, 2010. Below is Benoit Barbeau alongside players Isaac K., Jesse-James H., Nikola D., Vincent D., Kevin E-B., Jonathan C. and Hugo D., as well as goaltender Miguel G.
Sincere thanks go out to the Friends of Ville-Émard, who continue their fundraising efforts with the annual golf tournament held on the fairways of Belle Vue Golf Club. Congratulations, everyone! GOOD-BYE SUPPER Another great season draws to a close... Tudor C. won a pair of Reebok skates in a draw at the 2010 Benoit Barbeau Summer Hockey School good-bye supper held at the La Cage-aux-Sports Restaurant on René-Lévesque Blvd. with 200 guests in attendance. What a great way to wrap up two weeks of hard work while having fun!
Congratulations, Tudor! See you next July 4th! THE COMITÉ DES JEUNES RIVERAINS ORGANIZATION Up to speed with the Yearly Teaching Content and the Ice Hockey Learning Steps Guide! The CJR (Richelieu region) gave all its Novice- and Midget-level coaches the opportunity to use the Yearly Teaching Content and the Ice Hockey Learning Steps Guide for the 2010-2011 season. This initiative will provide all those involved in the instruction of hockey the benefit of theoretical and practical support as they strive to deliver quality coaching to the players. Congratulations to the Comité des Jeunes Riverains! VIDEO EVALUATIONS ON USB KEY To continue improving all year long... Players in Groups A-1 and A-2, , as well as the goaltenders in all groups at the Benoit Barbeau Summer Hockey School, can now get a copy of their evaluation sequences on an external USB storage drive! It's a novel way to keep up the corrective work started during the two weeks in July. Available in *.WMV format, the sequences can be viewed on most contemporary computers. SERGE BÉLISLE AT THE HOCKEY SCHOOL An honoured guest! On July 8 during the Hockey School, certified trainer and conference speaker, Serge Bélisle, paid us a visit and delivered his 1350th conference to the Group C campers. Blind for 10 years as a result of complications from diabetes, Serge raised our awareness about his motivational program called "Juste pour Voir." His projects and themed action items apply equally to schools and businesses.
Thanks, Serge; yours is a message we soon won't forget! THE FRIENDS OF VILLE-ÉMARD MAKING A DIFFERENCE Free spots at the Pre-Season Camp awarded to four young players! Once again this year, The Friends of Ville-Émard gave some promising young hockey players the opportunity to participate free of charge in the Pre-Season Camp. We see here Benoit Barbeau posing with the players Francis Robert, Renaud Cossette-Laneville and Mathieu Lafaille-Théberge. Absent from the photo: Alexandre Hamel. All these players were part of Group B. Well done!
In addition, Mathilde Bolduc-Tremblay and Gabriel Webster from Group A each won themselves a free spot at the Pre-Season Camp. Our six lucky athletes enjoyed a great week learning in a one-of-a-kind environment. Congratulations!
As part of the 2009 Sud-Ouest Bantam-Midget Tournament, Samuel Brouillard-Leclerc of Pointe-aux-Trembles earned the chance to participate free of charge in the Pre-Season Camp. The TSO is one of the biggest single-letter Bantam-Midget tournaments in Quebec. For more information, see www.tournoiso.com.
REMEMBERING ANDRÉ LALONDE Farewell to a good friend Last October, The Friends of Ville-Émard lost a long-time and dedicated volunteer. André Lalonde was taken from us after losing a short battle with illness. He will be fondly remembered for his dedication to the cause of the children of the Sud-Ouest.
Over the years, The Friends of Ville-Émard have provided more than 50 youngsters with the opportunity to attend the Benoit Barbeau Summer Hockey School or the Pre-Season Camp free of charge. The Friends’ primary source of funding is their annual golf tournament, which draws over a hundred golfers and friends. Thanks for everything, André; you will be sorely missed. FREE SPOT AT THE PRE-SEASON CAMP Congratulations, Jimmy! On January 28, 2007, Jimmy Dignard-Fortier won a free spot at the Pre-Season Camp August 6-10th. His team, Longueuil Bantam A, offered a strong performance in the finals of the Tournoi Sud-Ouest tournament held at Montreal's Sylvio-Mantha Arena.
Benoit Barbeau was pleased to offer him this recognition of excellence, and our winner enjoyed the experience. Bravo Jimmy! MONTREAL SUD-OUEST BANTAM-MIDGET TOURNAMENT Benoit Barbeau named Honorary President This year, the 23rd edition of the Montreal Sud-Ouest Bantam-Midget Tournament will take place January 7-27, 2008 at the Gadbois Complex's Georges and Sylvio Mantha Arenas. It's with great pride that Benoit Barbeau will assume the role of Honorary President of the Tournament. Himself a Sud-Ouest resident, Benoit will be present at the opening and closing ceremonies. In keeping with tradition, Hockey Benoit Barbeau will be pleased to offer two free spots at the 2008 Pre-Season Camp: one spot will go to a player participating in the Bantam A finals and the other will be awarded a lucky Bantam B player. Good luck to everyone and thanks to Louis Chassé and his team of volunteers for all their hard work!
